With Gerald staying downstairs in the living room I’ve slowly been moving upstairs but I still keep somethings in the downstairs restroom. The other day I was looking for the 2 hair brushes I like to use but I couldn’t find either one of them and I was mad because that means someone had bothered something that belonged to me not them.
The funny part I would like to tell you about me is I have 4 to 5 hairbrushes in my house. And out of all those hairbrushes, there are only two that I actually like using and when I needed to get ready to go both were gone.
I don’t want a hairbrush that feels like it’s trying to pull every strand of hair out of my head and the one’s I had felt like that and I would end up with a headache. So the other day, I decided it was time to find a new one.
David and I had stopped at Dollar Tree, and I told myself I was going to look for a hairbrush. Then, because I was doing what I seem to always do—taking care of everybody else and forgetting about myself—I forgot. Completely forgot.
Then we went to Walmart. And this time, before I did anything else, I made a point of going to find myself a hairbrush. David asked me, “What are we looking for?” I told him: “I need something for myself.”
He asked what and I said a hair brush and he said why we have a drawer full at home and I told him why. After hearing why he helped me find one. In fact, David is the one who found the Conair pink hairbrush. And I’m so glad he did.
The first thing I noticed was the color. It’s a soft pink, not a loud neon pink. That immediately made me think of Suzanne. She would have loved this color and decided the hair brush was hers and I could also see Charlie doing this as well.
There’s something about finding a little ordinary object in a color that reminds you of someone you love. It makes the item feel a little more special. But pretty color alone isn’t going to convince me to keep a hairbrush. It has to work.
One of the things I really like about this Conair brush is the handle. It’s soft, comfortable, and small enough that it fits my hand really well. That matters to me because sometimes my hand doesn’t work the way it should and I had no, problem holding onto the brush.
I’ve used brushes that feel awkward or too large in my hand, and after a while they become uncomfortable to use. This one feels natural. I can hold it easily and brush my hair without feeling like I’m fighting with the brush.
And Then There Are the Bristles I’ll be honest. At first, I was a little nervous about the bristles. They’re not the soft nylon kind I usually look for. They’re stiffer. And I thought, Oh boy. Is this thing going to pull my hair? But I was pleasantly surprised. It doesn’t.
The brush moves through my hair nicely. It gets the tangles out without feeling like it’s ripping through them. And that’s exactly what I have been looking for. I don’t need a brush that makes brushing my hair a painful experience. I need one that gets the job done without pulling my hair out. This one does.
I don’t know about you, but I’m not interested in standing in front of the mirror forever trying to get one knot out of my hair. I want a brush that can get through the tangles in a reasonable amount of time. This Goody brush does that for me.
It moves through my hair, works out the tangles, and doesn’t leave me feeling like I’ve lost half my hair in the process. That alone makes it a winner in my book. Especially when my hair is thinning and I don’t want to be bald.
Here’s the funny part. When we got home, David found my other hairbrush. The one I really, really like. So now I have the old favorite and my new pink Conair. Do I need two? Probably not. Will I keep both? Absolutely.
Because in this house, somebody will move a hairbrush. I don’t know who does it. I don’t know where they take them. I just know that one minute a hairbrush is right where I left it, and the next minute… Gone. So having a backup might actually be a necessity and a Godsend in my home.
Here’s my next problem. David likes to brush his beard with hairbrushes. And I already know that if I don’t make my feelings very clear, somebody is going to decide that my nice new pink brush is suddenly a family hairbrush.
No. Absolutely not. I’ve already decided that I’m going to purchase the same brush in black for Charlie and David. That way everybody can have their own. Because I would really like my pink brush to remain my pink brush. And yes, I’m only half joking when I say: Please don’t touch my new pink hairbrush or I might punch you. LOL.
Would I Buy It Again? Yes. Absolutely. In fact, I’m planning to buy more. The current Walmart listing for the Conair pink Eco All-Purpose Detangling Hair Brush is around the $5 range, although prices and availability can change. That model is designed with staggered bristles for detangling and is available in pink.
The important thing for me, though, isn’t the exact price even though its priced so I can afford multiple hair brushes. It’s whether I like using it. And I do. So does Charlie and David too.
I like that this hair brush fits my hand. Has a comfortable handle. Works through my tangles. Doesn’t feel like it’s pulling my hair out and the hair brush comes in a beautiful soft pink.
And, perhaps most importantly, it makes something as ordinary as brushing my hair a little easier. That’s a win and it’s a Little Pink Reminder to Take Care of Myself but there’s another reason this purchase made me smile.
I went into Walmart with one mission: I found something for me. Not for David. Not for Charlie. Not for somebody else. For me. And David actually helped me find it. That may seem like a tiny thing. It’s just a hairbrush.
But sometimes we need to remember that taking care of ourselves doesn’t have to mean buying something expensive or going somewhere fancy. Sometimes it means remembering that we need a new hairbrush, too. And in my case, finding one in a beautiful soft pink that reminds me of Suzanne makes it even sweeter.
So now I’m sitting here with my two favorite hairbrushes. My old favorite. And my new pink Goody Hair Brush and somewhere in this house, there are probably four or five other hairbrushes that nobody wants to use.
And somehow, I’m sure one of mine will disappear again. I just hope it’s not my new pink one. Because after all that searching… I’m keeping this one and if you want to know the truth I don’t want to share it.
And if David or Charlie wants a hairbrush? They can have the black one when I purchase it or one of the one’s we have in our junk drawer in the bathroom and they can just leave my pink one alone.
I’m not saying this is the only hairbrush anyone should use because everyone’s hair is different and what works beautifully for me may not be the right brush for someone else. But after trying this Goody hair brush myself, I’m happy with it.
It’s comfortable in my hand, works through my tangles, doesn’t make me feel like I’m pulling my hair out, and it’s just the prettiest soft pink. For me, that’s enough to make this a Greatful Moments favorite.
And sometimes a little purchase really can be a reminder that it’s okay to do something for yourself. Even when that something is simply buying a hairbrush we may or may not need which is okay as well.
Grateful, Thankful, and Blessed
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
