Children are on the down hill slide as school starts on Wednesday for a lot of children. I wanted to find something new and different we could make for breakfast later in the month so I thought you might like to have Breakfast Pizza’s which will be perfect for David and Charlie when there trying to get out the door and to work.
Mini Freezer Breakfast Pizzas are a fun make-ahead breakfast kids can help make. If your #homeschooling your children this could be a lesson for them on cooking and kitchen safety.
If you’ve been following along, we’ve already made quite a few breakfasts that families can prepare ahead of time that also work for parents trying to get to work. Through the challenge I’ve shared #recipes for banana nut muffins, apple cinnamon overnight oats, freezer breakfast burritos, a yogurt parfait bar, freezer breakfast sandwiches, sausage breakfast sliders, cheesy breakfast toast, easy breakfast quiches, and French toast sticks.
And I’m saving pancakes for our first day of school breakfast, because I have a fun idea for making them in different shapes! So today we need something different. And I think this one is going to be fun.
Mini Freezer Breakfast Pizzas
Who says pizza is only for lunch or dinner? No, me or Charlie we like leftover cold Pizza for breakfast. Do you like cold Pizza? These little breakfast pizzas can be made on English muffins, bagels, or even small pieces of bread. You add eggs, cheese, and your family’s favorite breakfast toppings, bake them, let them cool, and freeze them.
When Suzzane was little I learned how to make Biscuit Pizza’s which you can also use to make these breakfast pizza’s with. Then, on a busy morning, you can pull one out, heat it up, and breakfast is ready.
I especially like this recipe because the children can help make it. By allowing the children to help measure ingredients, crack eggs, sprinkle cheese, count the breakfast pizzas, and decide which toppings they want on their own pizza. Through this recipe they would be learning cooking skills without realizing they’re having a lesson.
One of the problems with making breakfast for an entire family is that everybody likes something different. One child loves sausage. Another wants bacon. Someone doesn’t like meat at all. Mom wants vegetables. Dad just wants eggs and cheese. That’s okay!
With these little breakfast pizzas, everyone can make their own. Set out the toppings and let each person create a breakfast pizza they will actually want to eat. You can even make different combinations and label them before putting them into the freezer.
I wanted to share what makes this recipe budget-friendly? It’s because we don’t need fancy ingredients. We can use whatever breakfast foods our family already buys. English muffins are inexpensive, but you can also use bagels, hamburger buns, leftover dinner rolls, or slices of bread.
For toppings, use leftover cooked sausage, bacon, ham, or even vegetables from another meal. And if you have a little bit of cheese left in the refrigerator, this is a great way to use it. This is one of those recipes where you don’t have to follow the ingredient list perfectly. Use what your family likes and what you already have.
If you’re looking for cooking activities for your homeschool, this is an easy one to add to your lesson plans. You can talk about measuring. You can practice counting. You can discuss food safety.
Older children can learn how to read a recipe and follow directions. You can even turn the freezer preparation into a math problem. If we make 18 breakfast pizzas and four people in our family each eat one, how many breakfasts do we have?
What if we make two each? How many are left? Cooking doesn’t have to be complicated to be educational. Sometimes the best lessons happen right in the kitchen. Which is half the fun and leads to new memories.
Once your breakfast pizzas are baked, let them cool completely. Wrap them individually or place them in a freezer-safe container with parchment paper between layers. Then label the container with the date.
On a busy morning, take one out, heat it thoroughly, and you’re ready to go. And if you’re headed out the door for work, you can wrap one up and take it with you. These Breakfast Pizza’s are not just for children.
They’re for busy parents, grandparents, teenagers, homeschool families, and anyone who needs breakfast without sitting down at the kitchen table for 30 minutes. Which is me a lot of the time.
Letting the kids create there own breakfast pizza was my favorite part when Suzzane and Charlie were little. Instead of making every breakfast pizza exactly the same, let your children have some control.
Give them choices. Egg and cheese. Sausage and cheese. Bacon and cheese. Ham and cheese. All the Meats. Vegetable and cheese. Or a little bit of everything. Or Mushrooms, Eggs and Sausage David said.
When children help prepare their food, they are often more willing to try it. And even if they don’t eat every combination they create, they’re learning something important: how to prepare food for themselves. That’s a skill worth teaching.
Today’s challenge is simple. Make a batch of Mini Freezer Breakfast Pizzas with your family. You don’t have to make a huge batch. Start with whatever works for your family. Make six. Make twelve. Make twenty.
The goal isn’t to fill your freezer with food you won’t eat. The goal is to make your mornings just a little easier. And I think that’s what this entire 13 Days of Breakfast Challenge has really been about.
We’re not trying to create perfect mornings. We’re trying to create prepared mornings. Because when breakfast is already waiting in the freezer, you have one less thing to worry about. And when the children helped make it? That’s even better.
We’re almost at the end! Tomorrow we’ll have another breakfast idea to add to your back-to-school breakfast collection. And then we’ll finish our challenge on the first day of school with pancakes made in fun shapes. I can’t wait to share that one!
Until then, gather the family, head into the kitchen, and make some breakfast pizzas. You might even discover that breakfast is a whole lot more fun when everyone gets to be the chef.
Grateful, Thankful, and Blessed — one breakfast and one family memory at a time.
