I know most people would say Facebook is a way to waste time and most of the time I would agree with the. But that isn’t always true sometimes I find new companies to feature.
Or I make new friends or connect with family and friends I hadn’t had the opportunity to talk to. The other morning, I was on Facebook when I saw a question posted that caught my attention.
It was something along the lines of “What color would I be?” and underneath the question was a description of the person that had been chosen by ChatGPT. I decided to let it tell me what color it thought I might be and it was spot on.
I shared the answers with David and Charlie then they asked me to see what color ChatGPT though they were and again it was spot on for them and my friends, family and dogs as well.
As I was getting off ChatGpt I thought about how fun the question was for my family and I thought you might like to see what it has to say about you but I know some people have very strong opinions about ChatGPT. Some people don’t trust it.
Some people think it’s not safe. And some people simply don’t understand why anyone would want to use it. But I’ve found that ChatGPT can be a lot of fun. And when it comes to blogging, it has also been incredibly helpful to me.
So I thought, why not have a little fun with my family? I decided to ask ChatGPT: “If my family were flowers, what flowers would they be?” And then I started going down the list beginning with me and ending with Renee Davis Brown who helps me on here.
I have to admit, some of the answers surprised me. Some made me laugh. Some made me stop and think. And a couple of them were almost a little spooky because they fit so well. But as I started reading the answers, I realized something else.
My garden has apparently been telling our family story all along. I just didn’t know it. So let’s take a walk through the flowers ChatGPT chose for the people — and four-legged family members — who make up my world.
I begin with myself and I asked ChastGpt I Were a Flower, and it said I Would Be a Pink Tulip
And I was actually surprised by that one. Not because I don’t like tulips. I do. But tulips have a very special place in our family. Suzanne’s favorite flower was the tulip. My grandmother loved yellow tulips, and Suzanne loved them too.
I have yellow tulips in my garden because they remind me of them. And now ChatGPT has chosen a pink tulip for me. Which if a Tulip was going to describe any of us I would have thought it would have been Suzzane.
After thinking about it and hearing the reason behind ChatGPT’s answer maybe it makes more sense than I first thought. Before I share the reason why it choose the pink Tulip do you think I’m a pink Tulip? If so why?
Tulips are flowers that come back after a season of waiting and I always seem to be waiting on something or someone. They bloom, disappear, and then return when the time is right. I do disappear into my office at times and come out when people need me.
I think there is something about that that fits me. I’ve been through a lot of seasons in my life, and somehow I keep finding my way back to blooming. And now I have another reason to look at those tulips in my garden and smile. Maybe I was meant to have tulips all along.
If David Were a Flower, He Would Be a Sunflower
ChatGPT chose a sunflower for David but then it chose a sunflower for Charlie as well. At first I had to laugh but the more I thought about the answer and how much Charlie is like his dad I knew this was the right answer for them.
Why? Because I’ve been wanting to plant yellow sunflowers in my garden, and I already have some pink Sunflowers growing because this is Charlie and Suzzane’s favorite color and they made the Garden different from everyone else’s.
So apparently, my garden knew something before ChatGPT did when it said David was a sunflower which makes sense to me because sunflowers are strong, steady, dependable, and warm.
They stand tall which David does no, matter what is going on and they keep growing. They turn toward the light. And there is something comforting about a sunflower and there is about David as well.
That’s David. He may not always say a lot about what he’s doing, but he’s dependable. He’s there. He works hard and keeps going. So I can see why ChatGPT chose a sunflower for him. And now every time I look at the sunflowers growing in my garden, I’m going to think about David too.
If Charlie Were a Flower, He Would Be a Sunflower
And then came Charlie. Another sunflower. I thought that was pretty funny since I already have sunflowers growing in my garden. But Charlie’s sunflower isn’t necessarily the same as David’s.
Charlie is still growing and figuring out who he is and who he’s going to become. And a sunflower feels right for someone who is reaching toward the future trying to figure out there life which I enjoy being a part of.
There is something about watching your child grow up that makes you realize how quickly the seasons pass. One minute you’re raising them. Then suddenly they’re working, making decisions, figuring things out, and becoming their own person.
Charlie is still blooming. And I think the sunflower is a pretty good reminder of that. The funny part is that I can now look at my garden and think: Apparently, I planted a little piece of our family without even realizing it. Which we all know is a Godwink and help from the LORD.
If Suzanne Were a Flower, She Would Be a Forget-Me-Not
This one stopped me ChatGPT chose a forget-me-not for Suzanne. And I had actually been thinking about buying some forget-me-nots because they were in my Grandmother’s Garden my dad’s mom growing up and thanks to ChatGPT I have a reason to purchase them.
Because Suzanne is someone who cannot be forgotten. There are people who become part of our family stories in such a deep way that even though they’re no longer physically here, they’re still part of everything.
A song can bring them back. A smell can bring them back. A flower can bring them back. A memory can bring them back. And a little blue forget-me-not seems like the perfect flower for Suzanne.
I think I need some in my garden. Not just because they’re pretty. But because they will remind me to remember. Sometimes grief shows up in the smallest things. A flower. A photograph. A favorite song. Something someone used to say.
And sometimes you don’t realize how much a little thing means until it suddenly brings someone you love right back into your thoughts. So yes. I think ChatGPT got this one exactly right. Suzanne is my forget-me-not.
If Gerald Were a Flower, He Would Be an Iris
Gerald got the iris which I’ve always liked. And ChatGPT said the iris has character. Well… Gerald definitely has character. That one fit him to a T. Gerald has always had his own way of doing things and his own path in life.
He lived in Oklahoma, worked for Tandy Leather Company and then Hobby Lobby, built his own home, and has his own stories and memories. The iris isn’t a flower that disappears into the background.
It has a personality. It has character. And it stands out. So yes. Gerald is definitely an iris. Some people simply have a presence that makes them unmistakably themselves. That’s Gerald. And I think the iris fits him perfectly.
If Debbie Were a Flower, She Would Be a Peony
Then we come to my youngest sister, Debbie. ChatGPT chose a peony which I had heard of before but I had to look them up because I couldn’t remember what they looked like but after reading the reason ChatGPT choose it I knew they were right again.
Debbie can be sweet. But boy, she can be a pain too. Then again… Can’t all sisters and brothers be a pain sometimes? That’s part of being family and that is why the LORD created siblings to keep us on our toes.
The peony actually made me laugh because it’s beautiful and soft, but it’s also full and layered. And Debbie definitely has layers. More layers than people could ever guess or would share.
She’s my youngest sister, and no matter how old we all get, there is always going to be that little piece of her being the baby sister. But being the baby doesn’t mean you don’t grow up and become your own person.
Debbie has her own personality, her own stories, and her own place in our family. So I’ll give her the peony. She deserves it. And I’ll just remind her that I said it was a beautiful flower before I mentioned that she can sometimes be a pain. That’s what sisters are for.
If Renee Were a Flower, She Would Be a Hydrangea
There is one more person I wanted to include in this little adventure before we move on to our pets— Renee, who works with me on the blog and she has been one of my best friends forever. She is my sister from another mother.
Renee is part of the behind-the-scenes work that helps me keep all these ideas moving. Anyone who works on a blog knows there are always a million little pieces to keep up with.
There are ideas. Articles. Images. Technical things. Changes. And all the unexpected things that come along when you’re trying to keep a website running and she is more patient and determined than anyone else I know. Thank GOD for that or this blog might not be here.
When I thought about what flower Renee would be, ChatGPT chose a hydrangea. And when I read the description why, both Renee and I agreed: The Hydrangea was exactly right.
A hydrangea is made up of lots of little blooms that come together to create something much bigger. That reminds me of blogging. There are so many little pieces that have to come together before an idea becomes a finished post.
Renee helps me work through those pieces, and she’s part of what helps turn all those individual ideas into something that can actually grow. Hydrangeas can also change colors depending on their surroundings. That made me think of flexibility and adaptability.
Because if there’s one thing we’ve learned from blogging, it’s that things don’t always go according to plan! Sometimes you have to adjust. Sometimes you have to try something different. Sometimes you have to figure it out as you go. And sometimes you just have to laugh and keep going.
So when I told Renee that CHATGPT thought she would be a hydrangea, she said she was amazed how spot on CHATGPT were. And honestly, I couldn’t have picked a better flower for her. Renee — Hydrangea: adaptable, full of layers, and made up of many little pieces that come together into something beautiful.
And Then There Are the Four-Legged Family Members
Of course, we can’t leave out the dogs. Because anyone who has pets knows that they aren’t just pets. They’re part of the family. They have personalities. They have habits. They have opinions.
And sometimes our dogs have absolutely no idea that they’re supposed to be following the rules. So naturally, I could see the dogs as a flower too. Couldn’t you see the dogs as Flowers?
If Phoebe Were a Flower, She Would Be a Red Gerbera Daisy.
Why a daisy? I had no idea but these are the flowers David brings home to me sometimes and also daisy are in my garden. The more I thought about it, the more a Gerbera Daisy fit and now I want to go get some for my home. Would you want to go flower shopping with me?
Phoebe is my Phoebe. She’s small. She’s got personality. And she certainly knows how to make herself noticed. A red gerbera is bright and cheerful and has a personality of its own. Just like my little girl.
She doesn’t need to be the biggest dog in the room. She just needs to be Phoebe. And that’s more than enough. So I’m going with it. Phoebe is officially a red gerbera daisy and it is the perfect flower to describe her.
If Bear Bear Were a Flower, She Would Be Lavender
Then there is Bear Bear. ChatGPT chose lavender. And this one made me smile because lavender is one of my favorite scents. I love the way it smells. Charlie, however, doesn’t like it nearly as much.
So I don’t know how Charlie would feel about ChatGPT turning his dog into lavender. Actually… Too bad, Charlie. That means Bear Bear could become my doggie. If only that were true.
All joking aside, lavender makes sense for Bear Bear because there is something comforting and peaceful about it. And dogs have a way of bringing comfort into our lives. Which Bear does.
They become part of our routines. They become part of our memories. They make a house feel more like home. So I think ChatGPT got this one right too. Bear Bear is lavender and I wouldn’t change his Flowe if I could.
If Sandy Were a Flower, She Would Be a Marigold
And then there is Sandy.Charlie’s new rescue puppy. Oh, Sandy. This one fits her to a T. ChatGPT chose a marigold. Marigolds are bright, energetic, hardy, and definitely not flowers that disappear into the background. And neither does Sandy.
She’s a puppy. She’s stubborn. She’s still learning. She’s got plenty of energy. And sometimes she’s just a little shithead of a dog. 😂 But she’s also a rescue puppy who is learning what it means to belong.
She’s learning our routines. She’s learning our rules. And we’re learning her. Maybe someday we’ll look back at the puppy stage and laugh about all the things she did that drove us crazy. At least I hope we can.
For now, though… Sandy is our marigold. She’s bright. She’s bold. She’s a handful. And she’s ours to love. That is if she doesn’t drive me crazy first or cause me to move out because even though she is Charlie’s dog I end up with her more time than not.
If Gunner Were a Flower, He Would Be a Zinnia
And then there is Gunner, our foster doggie that we watch. The doggie I love wish would become my doggie which isn’t going to happen because his owner loves him just as much as I do.
ChatGPT chose a zinnia for him. I really like that. Because foster dogs may only be with us for a season, but that doesn’t mean they don’t become part of our lives while they’re here and this is what happened with Gunner.
Gunner has his own place in our household when he’s with us. He becomes part of the routine. Part of the family. Part of the memories. Even my sister who isn’t a dog person loves Gunner and misses him when he isn’t here.
And zinnias remind me of friendship, affection, and those things that may not stay forever but still leave something beautiful behind. Gunner may not be ours forever. But he matters. And that’s what makes his place in our story special.
Sometimes loving a dog means knowing that the time you have together may be temporary. But temporary doesn’t mean unimportant. It doesn’t mean you don’t love them. It simply means you appreciate the time you have. So Gunner gets his own flower too. He is our zinnia.
What My Garden Taught Me
As I started putting all these answers together, I couldn’t help but laugh. ChatGPT somehow turned my family into a flower garden. But then I realized something. This isn’t really about flowers.
It’s about the people we love. It’s about memories. It’s about personalities. It’s about the little things that make each person different. And it’s about how sometimes a silly question can make you stop and look at someone you love in a completely different way.
Because look at what happened. I already had tulips because they remind me of my grandmother and Suzanne. I’ve been wanting to plant sunflowers, and now David and Charlie are both sunflowers.
I was already thinking about getting forget-me-nots then ChatGPT chose them for Suzzane. That was a Godwink. Renee agreed that the hydrangea fit her perfectly. Even the dogs somehow ended up with flowers that made sense.
Maybe that’s just coincidence. Maybe it’s simply a fun little exercise. Or maybe sometimes we notice things that were already there but hadn’t put together before. Either way, it made me smile. And that’s reason enough to keep going.
Grateful Moments: If I Were…
This flower question is actually the beginning of something new here at Grateful Moments. I’m calling the series: Grateful Moments: If I Were… And those three little dots are important.
Because tomorrow’s question may have nothing to do with flowers. It might be: If I Were a Color… Or: If I Were a Season… Maybe: If I Were a Song… Or: my favorite If I Were a Movie…
Maybe we’ll ask what actor or actress someone would be. What book. What animal. What food. What holiday. What television show. Or something completely unexpected. That’s the fun of it.
We don’t know where every question is going to take us. And that’s okay. Sometimes the best memories come from the questions we didn’t plan on asking. So this is going to be a daily question series — sometimes funny, sometimes silly, sometimes thoughtful, and maybe sometimes a little sentimental. And I hope you’ll play along with us.
Now It’s Your Turn
After all that, I have to ask: If you were a flower, what would you be — and why? Don’t just tell me your favorite flower. Tell me the flower that you think describes you. Are you a sunflower? A tulip? A rose? A daisy? A forget-me-not? A peony? A hydrangea? Or maybe something completely different?
And if you know someone in my family, tell me what you think their flower should have been. Did ChatGPT get it right? Would you have chosen something different? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
And then come back tomorrow because we’re going to ask another question. If I Were a Color what color would I be and why. Because here at Grateful Moments: If I Were… we’re just getting started.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
