Yesterday, I was able to share how much I enjoyed reading Amelia Bedelia not only with Suzanne and Charlie but my nieces and nephews as well. Those are memories I will always treasure because reading together was never just about finishing a book. It was about spending time together, laughing at funny moments, asking questions, and creating memories that have stayed with me through the years.
As a mom, I learned that every child develops at their own pace. Suzanne enjoyed reading once we got her help, and Charlie did too as long as it was something she was interested, but they each had their own interests and their own favorite books. That’s one of the reasons I believe we should never compare readers. Every child is different, and every reading journey is unique. But one thing Charlie and Suzzane had in common was they both loved Amelia Bedelia.
The same is true for adults. Watching David continue to improve his reading has reminded me that learning doesn’t stop when we leave school. We can continue growing, learning, and building confidence at any age. That is why I love this month’s reading challenge. It isn’t about how fast you read or how many books you finish. It’s about making reading a part of everyday life, one page at a time.

Today’s Children’s Book Spotlight
Another featured book featuring Amelia Bedelia and the book is called Amelia Bedelia, Bookworm: A Classic and Charming Book About Literal Language for Kids (Ages 4-8) (I Can Read Level 2) reader designed for children who are beginning to read more independently.
One of the things I love about books like this is that they help children build confidence. Instead of feeling overwhelmed by a long chapter book, young readers can experience the joy of finishing a story on their own. Every page they read helps strengthen their vocabulary, improve their confidence, and remind them that they really can do it. Sometimes all a child needs is one successful reading experience to begin believing in themselves.
A Lesson for the Whole Family
Even though this book is written for children beginning to read more independently, I think adults can learn something from it too.
We live in a world where everyone seems to be in a hurry. We want quick results. Quick answers. Quick success. Reading reminds us that growth happens one page at a time. Whether you’re learning to read, learning a new hobby, studying the Bible, or simply trying to become a better version of yourself, every small step matters. Don’t worry about how quickly someone else is moving. Celebrate the page you’re on today.
Today’s 30-Minute Reading Challenge
Today’s challenge is simple. Spend 30 minutes reading. If you have a beginning reader at home, let them read aloud, even if they stumble over a few words which is what I do with David. If they ask for help, encourage them. Celebrate their effort more than their speed because even reading one page is a success.
If you’re reading alone today, choose a book you’ve been meaning to start and enjoy thirty quiet minutes just for yourself. Remember, reading doesn’t have to happen in the living room. Read on the front porch. Read while waiting for an appointment. Read in the park. Read together before bedtime. Wherever you read, make today another step toward building a lifelong habit.
Let’s Talk
I’d love to hear from you: What was your favorite book when you were learning to read?
Or, if you’re reading with a child, what book are they enjoying right now?
Every recommendation might become someone else’s new favorite story. One page at a time.
