Growing up when my brother begin driving and got his truck he would take us to Griffs Hamburgers to pick up Hamburgers for him and I. Back in the day we could get them for 25 cents so we would get a a couple sollars worth and head home. As time has moved on Griffs is still here going strong.
I ate there with my parents and even Suzzane when she was here. When David and I got together we would eat there because it was something we could afford. Now, Charlie eats here because its one of his favorite places to get Hamburgers from. Gerald is back now and he also still eats there. Just as my sister’s family does and even my Mother in Law eats there.
For my family there is some places that become part of a community’s story because they have been there through generations of families, everyday routines, and simple moments shared around a meal. Griff’s Hamburgers is one of those local favorites. My grandmother Dorie lived on the North Side and there was a Griffs in River Oaks I used to go to with her for lunch sometimes.
When my family talks about exploring our backyard, were not just talking about finding new places. Were talking about remembering the places that have become familiar — the ones people return to because they know what they love and they appreciate the history behind them.
A local hamburger place is about more than just the food. It is about the experience of stopping somewhere nearby, sharing a meal, and enjoying one of those ordinary moments that turns into a memory. That is what makes family-owned and local businesses special. They become woven into the community. They become places where people gather, traditions continue, and stories are shared.
As we continue discovering the places around us, Griff’s Hamburgers reminds us that some of the best finds are not always brand new. Sometimes they are the familiar places that have been bringing people together for years. Because exploring our backyard is not just about where we go. It is about the memories we make along the way.
If your looking for somewhere to have lunch or dinner today check them out. David, Charlie get the Triple Meal Charlie with no, Veggies and David leaves the Onion’s and Tomatoes off his with Fries and a Drink. Gerald likes to get a Double Meat Meal with everything on it with Fries and a Drink.
Of course I have to be different sometimes I get a plain Hamburger Meal sometimes a Cheeseburger Meal or a Kids Meal if I don’t want much to eat. But more times than not I get a number ` with Cheese and I add Bacon to it with Mayo and no, Pickles or Tomato’s with Tater Tots and a Sweet Tea. Now, I’m hungry. Anyone want to go to Griffs with me for lunch?
