Sometimes we learn about a #Holiday when its passed but it still means something to my family. That is why I wanted to share National Dog Moms Day which happens on May 9th with you. National Dog Mom’s Day is reminder that pets are not “just animals”—they are part of the family.
For many of us, dogs bring comfort, routine, laughter, and unconditional love into our homes. They become part of our daily lives in a way that is hard to put into words. And for dog moms everywhere, today is a simple celebration of that bond
Dogs have a unique way of becoming part of everything we do.
They greet us at the door like we’ve been gone for days even if we was only gone 2 seconds. They follow us from room to room letting us know they are there if we need them. They comfort us when we’re stressed or tired. Dogs become part of our routines and memories Over time, they stop feeling like “pets” and start feeling like family.
One of the easiest ways to celebrate National Dog Mom’s Day is also one of the most meaningful take your dog for a walk. You can turn the walk into a family moment by letting kids help leash and care for the dog on the walk.
You and your children can talk about responsibility and kindness while exploring your neighborhood together and don’t forget when your walking to slow down and enjoy the outdoors. Sometimes the simplest activities create the strongest memories
If your #Homeschooling your children or just want to get out for a bit and have time take the kids to visit a local animal shelter where kids can learn compassion for animals and responsibility in caring for pets.
You can discuss what adoption means and what the animal shelter requires when adopting a animal. Then you can talk to children about why animals need safe homes. Even if you’re not adopting a pet, just seeing the work shelters do can leave a lasting impression.
Rescue animals often come with unknown pasts—but what they offer is a second chance at love and safety. If your family has a rescue dog like Phoebe and Sandy, today is a beautiful opportunity to reflect on how they became part of your family and the joy they bring every day. Then you can discuss how animals can heal and trust again These stories matter because they teach kids empathy in a real, lived way.
I remember when I was #Homeschooling Charlie and Suzzane how Pets were one of the best natural teaching tools in a home. Pets can help kids learn responsibility (feeding, walking, caring).
Consistency because like us dogs need a daily routine. They can teach empathy and understanding the needs of another living being as well as patience and kindness. When we was #Homeschooling thesse lessons stuck far longer than worksheets ever do.
As you celebrate today remember National Dog Moms Day isn’t just about celebrating dogs. It’s about recognizing the quiet, everyday bond between families and the animals who love them without conditions.
Sometimes the most meaningful family moments aren’t planned—they happen on a walk, on the couch, or when a dog simply rests their head in your lap and reminds you that you’re home.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
