The Grace Hour

I would like to welcome you to 2:00 PM — The Grace Hour or this is what we call this time in our home. Do you have a name for this time of day? If so what do you call it and why?

Usually in our home by 2:00 PM, the day has smoothed out. Not because everything was fixed — it never is or is it? But because I stopped demanding perfection from myself and those around me. I also taught myself to take time for me and to breath whenever I needed to.

Today I folded a little laundry David had brought back from the laundry mat last night. I answered a few emails and no, I still haven’t caught up but that is okay. Pheobie was upstairs napping, so I petted Bear until he fell asleep on my foot like a furry emotional support paperweight.

And I kept thinking about that missing hour — how it felt like a failure when it was happening, but now, looking back, it feels like a reminder: Life isn’t ruined by the moments that go wrong. Life is shaped by the grace that follows.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
