Part Two: Choosing Grace

Fast forward to this week — the boys have been working together every day, showing responsibility, teamwork, and maturity. They’ve been putting in the effort, and it shows.

Last night, Charlie asked if Bradley and their friend William could stay over because they all had to work early this morning. Saying yes wasn’t about forgetting the past. It was about choosing what kept them safe, fed, rested, and able to get to work on time.

Sometimes motherhood gives us two imperfect choices, and we pick the one that keeps our kids moving forward.

I made sure they ate. I made sure they showered. I made sure they got to bed. And I made sure they got to work on time.

That isn’t being wishy-washy. That’s being a mom.

Grace doesn’t erase consequences — it simply gives kids room to grow. And when they show they’re trying, we meet them halfway.

Motherhood is rarely about choosing the perfect option. It’s about choosing the option that keeps our kids safe, growing, and moving forward. Grace and boundaries can live in the same home.

At times it’s what keeps mothers sane and from drinking. Although, a good glass of Wine now and then wouldn’t hurt, would it?

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
