Unlocking a Brighter Year: Screen Time Tips for Young Ones

I wanted to share a new infographic with you that allows us to unlock a brighter year: featuring Screen Time Tips for Young Ones. The only think missing is I wish they had targeted teens especially older teens. I struggle with how much time Charlie and his friends spend online. Do you struggle as well? if so I hope this infographic brought to us by Pathways.org helps you out and her is the  app/link for you can use.

With the school year beginning again most of us survived SUMMER and kids and parents may turn to tablets and TVs for activities and entertainment after school once there Homework has been completed or the do in my home. What about yours?

I wanted to share some good news, with you screen time is okay. Just remember to set guidelines! Below is an overview of screen time guidelines by age for parents and caregivers watching over children. The Pathways.org app not only shares helpful tips on screen time, they provide a variety of screen-free games and activities for kids of all ages!

Things to Consider:

  • Preview content ahead of time to make sure it’s appropriate for your child.
  • Choose child-friendly, high quality programs.
  • Co-viewing: Watch shows with your child and talk about what you’re seeing to help them learn new words and to develop their understanding of what is happening.

Screen time recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics:

  • Under 18 Months: No screen time except video chatting with family and friends.
  • 18-24 Months: Limited Screen Time.
  • 2-5 Years Old: 1 hour/day during the week and 3 hours/day on weekends.
  • 6+ Years Old: Parents should monitor media and device usage.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
