My family would like to let you know if youâre looking for a teen book that breaks away from predictable fantasy but still delivers real adventure, War Bunny: Book 1 of the War Bunny Chronicle is one worth paying attention to.
War Bunny; Book 1 of the War Bunny Chronicles doesnât come across like a typical âcute animal storyâ or standard fantasy world. Charlie and David wanted me to let you know it sits in that interesting middle space where something unexpected becomes something meaningful. What starts as curiosity turns into a story that feels bigger the further you go.
This is what makes War Bunny: Book 1 of the War Bunny Chronicles work for teen readersâit doesnât talk down, and it doesnât stay surface-level. The story moves quickly, but thereâs still weight behind whatâs happening. That combination is exactly what keeps reluctant readers engaged.
For teens who feel like theyâve âread everything alreadyâ or who bounce off overly familiar fantasy tropes, this one feels different. Not complicated in a frustrating wayâjust fresh enough to hold attention without trying too hard.
Thereâs also something quietly emotional underneath the action. Itâs not loud about it, but itâs thereâthe kind of story that makes you pause for a second even while things are still unfolding.
War Bunny: Book 1 of the War Bunny Chronicles works especially well for readers who like adventure fantasy but are starting to want stories that feel a little more layered, a little less predictable, and a little more thoughtful without turning heavy. And thatâs really the strength of itâit doesnât ask for attention, it earns it.
????If youâre building a teen reading list that needs something different from the usual fantasy cycle, War Bunny: Book 1 of the War Bunny Chronicles is an easy one to add.
About the book:
Winner – 2022 International Book Awards – Fantasy
âA rebel rabbit turns the world of predators and prey on its head in this debut fantasy. An entertaining, imaginative post-apocalyptic scenario with special appeal for animal lovers.â -Kirkus Reviews
âA fierce and cozy adventure.â -The Portalist
âGreat for fans of Richard Adamsâs Watership Down.â -Publishers Weekly
âThe book’s ultimate message is one of hope.â -Foreword Clarion Review
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A BUNNY FIGHTS BACK?
In a post-apocalyptic world where humans are extinct and animals thrive, a young rabbit starts to wonder why rabbits must accept their status as prey animals. She asks pointed questions of the warren elders, and gets exiled for it.
Without a warren, she’s enormously vulnerable, but she reaches out to others in desperate straits. Soon, she’s locked in a ferocious battle for survivalâand maybe even freedom.
Part naturalistic adventure, part modern-day fable, War Bunny is a fast-paced story about friendship, honor, standing up for yourself, and coming of age.
A great adventure read for teens and adults! (Fantasy, 13+)
